Sustainable Agriculture and Building

Alfred and Carlyle Seccombe have been trained in small scale organic farming at ALBA.

In July 2009 Alfred will become a certified LEED Accredited Professional.

Currently, Alfred and Carlyle are developing ARROYO SECO ORGANIC RANCH, which will be an off-the-grid sustainable business and residence, including a rammed earth ranch house and organic farm.

Affordable Housing

Alfred is an associate member of the AIA. In 2002 he served on the committee that developed CONCEPTS, an architectural design competition to promote affordable housing in Monterey County. Alfred also chaired a committee to advocate for affordable housing at Fort Ord with COPA (an organization of churches and community groups).

Poverty Policy + Microcredit

Alfred and Carlyle Seccombe volunteer as citizen advocate for RESULTS, a grassroots organization which advocates for policies to end extreme poverty and hunger. One of the primary focuses is microfinance. They have worked with Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace prize winner, at several conferences on microfinance and organized a radio show and newspaper articles with their congressman, Sam Farr.

The Seccombes and North Star Construction donate and invest in microfinance with the following groups:
